Hello again, fellow true believers.
When last we met, we stood at the precipice of something truly remarkable. As our companion Whatmore guided us down to the portal, we were suddenly inextricably pulled in by the light of the great Gateway to Zen. So much was its force upon us that we soon tumbled through, into a great unknown...
As we regained our wherewithal, and as the all-encompassing light of the gate gave way to the great expanse of nothingness that always meets travellers looking for a higher plane, it was apparent we were lost. We stumbled through the void for what seemed like 3 weeks.
Until a soft glow turned into a bright one. Which, in turn, became the welcoming light emitting from the sign of a most alien-looking drinking establishment. The hum of unfamiliar tongues swam around us as we entered, every turn of the head brought another impossible creature into view. What to drink? What to say..?
Soon enough, our contact in this strange place made himself known, ordered a round of the house special grog and welcomed us into... NEW ATLANTIS!
Deadboy(or Super JV Lightbody as he's known to the locals) kindly spoke to us about the strange environment we find ourselves in (...and the mix)
Hi Deadboy/Super JV Lightbody, how are you?
I'm very good thanks
Where and how was New Atlantis born? It started when we did an ambient boiler room after I put out a record on Local Action, it was fun and we were saying it would be good to do it somewhere more often, I think this was shortly after Rye Wax had opened and it seemed like the perfect place for it, I dont think it would work anywhere else.
What's your next movements? Bermuda Triangle? Agartha? Perhaps Thuvaraiyam Pathi? I'm going to Canada for a bit to see how it feels, then who knows!
Is New Atlantis going on a hiatus? Could you shed some light on the Co-collaborators who made the shows so vibesy?
Well its actually gonna continue, I'll just be beaming in from another country, but the regular crew was/is me, Yamaneko, Tom Lea from Local Action, Gongon, Murlo, Leon from Shit and Shine, Sophie who does live sets as Eye Measure and India who does a similar show on Radar and who will be taking over the thing. We've had some one off guests including a great live set from Throwing Shade live on the sofa.
The visuals that were shown were often as fantastical as the music. Where did you guys look to find inspiration / material?
Deep in the late night youtube vortex
Favourite JRPG? Dark Souls
Finally, thanks for being part of the series, tell us about the mix! I did it live with all vinyl plus a space echo pedal, I wanted to put in all my favourite records I have played on the sundays there.
